Jr. High Retreat to Circle Square Ranch!
43 teens joined us for our youth retreat on October 31 – November 2. It was a great weekend full of horseback riding, low ropes courses, wall climbing, and spending time getting to know one another better. I know for myself, it was such a blessing to get to know these teens more personally. Sometimes it can be hard to connect with everyone on a weekly basis when 100 youth show up every Thursday, so it was awesome to be able to get to know everyone more.
Here are some snapshots from our weekend away!
Circle Square Ranch 2014
The beautiful scenery at camp!
With the help of her friends, blindfolded McKenna had to make her way through the maze of mousetraps. Don’t worry, no toes were snapped!
No, the picture above is not a random dog pile of teens and leaders, it’s one of our games! This one was called “Sasquatch”. …There’s never a shortage of competition in youth group!
In the gym at camp there’s a climbing wall, but we also enjoyed other gym activities. Basketball, soccer and ball hockey were some of the specific sports that grabbed teens attention. They played ball hockey for hours, it’s a new favorite!
Team building events are always fun. We were challenged on the low ropes course to work together as a team to complete various challenges.
Horseback riding was a highlight for many of the teens. We went on a scenic trail ride through the bad-land scenery. Circle Square Ranch is located on a beautiful property. It was awesome to be able to go out and see God’s creation by horseback.
Wide games with tackling involved are always a hit when it comes to junior high teens!
It’s awesome to see relationships form as teens take the time to get to know one another. I know for some of the youth it was difficult for them to step out and come to the retreat because they didn’t know many of the others, but through the duration of the weekend relationships began to blossom. Retreats have a way of bringing people together!
Throughout the weekend we learned about faith. Hebrews 11:1 and James 2:17 were two of the verses we focused on. A highlight for me was the circle time we had around the fire. We took the time to tell each other stories of faith in our own lives. At Wired, we know how to have fun, but we also know how to care for one another and how to be real with each other. It was eye-opening for me to hear people’s stories and I was humbled by these amazing kids. Some of them have some pretty tough stories to tell, but they continue to trust God no matter what. I realize that teens don’t usually like to be associated with the word “child”, but the child-like faith they possess blows me away. They have faith in God without abandon… I think we can all use a little more of that kind of faith.
Thanks to all who attended!!
